Yes,

I think Chizu is my favorite Lunkhead album. There's a raw, yet more refined, power to those songs. Yes, 月と手のひら is a most balanced album between solid rock sounds and synthetic sound engineering, and I think the Tsuki to Tenohira album has the most soul, but... somehow, I do like Chizu alot. Hmm that said, I do like Tsuki to Tenohira a hell alot too!

I mean who can't beat 灰空 (Haisora)?? Seriously, pure rock goodness there. And 白濁 (Hakudaku)... DAMN, ANOTHER PURE SOLID rock track!

And I suppose, I really miss these type of Lunkhead rock songs...

They seem REALLY different these days. Was just sampling VOX on iTunes and yes, it seems to follow-up on the feel of At0m. While I do like the songs, I'm just not crazy over it... Maybe not yet, I suppose... But listening to At0m and sampling VOX, I actually do like Chizu much, much better... Is that bad?! Goshhh.....

But I also think sometimes, maybe it's just the type of rock songs I like. I'm very narrow minded, actually, in my music taste, I've realized. Because seriously, there really is just a very few few type of sounds that I like, and any band that is able to produce tunes along those lines, I'd tend to really like them naturally.... That said, my recent Japanese playlist is kinda an antithesis of that theory tho!

Well I guess, what I mean or what to say is that, I guess, it's way easier listening to Chizu again =)

GREAT TRACKS DUDE!

Lunkhead - Komorebi

Can't believe it took me SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO frigging long to feature this song. Epic Fail. =_=

This is the FIRST FIRST FIRST ever Lunkhead song I heard when I downloaded a J-indies mix on jpopsuki in July 2006.There were quite alot of the usual J-rock/J-indies band on that mix but I totally fell in love with Lunkhead's song only.

Of course, at that time it was IMPOSSIBLE to find anything Lunkhead online... I think there was only Chizu available... and then a few monts later when I got back to CA, Tsuki to Tenohira was also uploaded by then.

But I really, really, really loved this song and I still do very much. When I first heard this song, I thought it was absolutely beautiful.

The part of this song I love the most is the first chorus where Odaka-san sings, "Sekai wa dore dake no koto wo, omode ni kaete susumo no darou?"

I remember the feeling this part gave me was of someone who is trapped by troubles of this world, but he takes flight and fly away to the sky above...

I STILL don't know what this part means (Oh, How i wish I could ask Yoshitaro one day... But I think it's better luck asking Yamashita-san, because at least he can explain it in ENGLISH!)... That's because apparently, the part can't be translated... Grammatically, it doesn't make sense.

But, I can still remember those mornings I played this song on the train on the way from Boston to Framingham... I remember when the train passes Fenway Park, there is a part along that route where it comes out of a short tunnel and you can see the lights through the window... And I can still remember listening to this chorus play as I looked out of the window on one of those mornings...

I also remember printing out the lyrics to the song and transcribing it to hiragana so I could memorize the lyrics... I remember I was memorizing the lyrics while I waited for the train from Framingham back to Boston and I still remember at one of the stops, I was holding the lyrics and trying to sing it with Odaka-san... DUDE, his PRONUNCIATION was TOTALLY DIFFERENT yo!!!

And most of all, I remember, it was this time that I liked Plastic Tree and Lunkhead... And it was around winter on the year before I left America. And I remember telling myself "I want to see Plastic Tree live... and I also want to see Lunkhead live," --- And i think that was the moment I decided that the only way to do that was to leave America to go back to Malaysia, because with the immigrant status that I was in, I could have never gone to visit Japan... And I wanted to visit Japan.... Because I wanted to go for LIVE... and to do that, I had to come back to Malaysia.

So..

That's how I came back.

Because of this song.

TODAY'S ON MUSIC!

Photobucket
Isshiki-san's iTunes!

I'd give my.... parts of my liver... to have a chance to scroll through Isshiki-san's itunes music library!!!!!!!

hahahahah...

No, but seriously, I would...!!!

I damn like to know what he listens to and I want to know more bands!!!!! I think he's an excellent resource!! Seems like he listens to an incredible archive of music yo!!! Well yeah, okay, he's a musician...

Anyway, while we're on that... I really want to know more bands... There's this one guy in the forum I always download music from, Shiba-san... DUDE, I think like 99% of all the Japanese bands I checked out, at least 70% of all the albums were downloaded off him!!! He always password protects his files with his nickname, and whenever i unzip a file and forgot the password, most I can try"shiba" and it would be correct! hahahaha..

Anyway, I was browsing through all this posts today and it's incredible all these bands that he knows! Well, through time I have gone through and checked out 90% of those bands already, but it's just amazing how he knows these bands!!! Well, he's in Japan for one...

I mean, I really admire people who know like a zillion bands! Or knows ALL the bands in a single genre... And I really admire some of these dudes who are not in Japan but know just an awesome amount of bands! It's incredible!!!

But I just think it's hard and quite impossible to get to know fairly new and unknown BUT AWESOME bands without actually being in the country.

Sometimes reading through some of the japanese blogs, it's so envious! To be there! And to be able to just check out and know all these new and upcoming and all these indie bands, I think that's an amazing thing that I wish I could do.

Like you know we were in Japan and I was with Akio and just walking along Kamo river, and across Kamo River this band was playing their songs in the frigid winter. But the song was just amazing! And it sounded even more amazing and added to the movie-like atmosphere of that night!! I mean can you imagine it?? Walking along Kamo River in the cold, in Japan, and you're happy and you're with your friend... and to add to the moment is a live soundtrack! lol~

Anyway, the band was great!!! But....... you HAD TO be there (in Japan) to have gotten to know them.

That's what I mean.

I wish I was there.

Or, at least have a chance to look through Isshiki-san's playlist. lol!

ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXCITING (but sad) LUNKHEAD NEWS!!!!

New DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Live limitation only............ WHY ALWAYS LIKE THAT, LUNKHEAD??? WHY????

Anyway, AME is great!!! She's helping me to get them!! She's always soooooo super amazing!!! Flying from Hong Kong to Japan just for live all the time!!! And always so kind to help me buy goods!!! THANK YOU AME!!!!

Anyway, I was thinking about music and I really feel a little sad because I feel that I am stuck on Lunkhead's (Tsuki to Tenohira)... I mean don't get me wrong, I love their other songs too and I feel that because I am a Lunkhead fan, I shouldn't JUST love ONE SONG too much!!!!! I think they have excellent songs and Odaka-san writes amazing tunes!! But... STILL, if you ask me what is my favourite Lunkhead song, or to recommend a Lunkhead song, it will ALWAYS be Tsuki to Tenohira!!!

It's just that... I that this song has a timeless beauty to it. I don't know how to describe it but.... This one song, it's just beautiful all over again, you know? I mean, I think this is probably the song I have heard the most often in my whole life. If added together from all the playcounts from 3 years ago till now, I think I've heard this song more than 1500 times.. (that's not much, actually, huh!!)...

But anyway... Sometimes, yes, I feel very burn out from the song, also... Like after listening to it too often, it loses its appeal..... Or I know that after the December live 2 years ago... I felt very sad to listen to Tsuki to Tenohira because it reminded me of too wonderful memories that were too painful to recall... So, I didn't listen as much... And also, other songs were released and they were all excellent songs too..!

But now again, listening to Tsuki to Tenohira again and.............. I hear and am moved by the beauty of the song once again.... I mean, it may be a very simple song, but I don't know how to describe it, but just the myriads of sounds that spreads out and converges in the song... and the simple beauty of the acoustic guitar, and the placid sad touching meaning of the words just... blends together in this song...

Would I call a perfect song? Well, maybe not to others.

But, in MY opinion, this is THE best song. EVER.

IS THAT TOO MUCH???? Sorry Lunkhead!!! I really love your other songs too!! But this song is too beautiful!!!! And it always makes me fall in love with it again and again!!!!

Photobucket

Well, at least they got the pop-up, after all. And I'm damn happy about that. At least it's worth it? Yeah, I suppose it was worth it, then. Yes? No? It wasn't much anyway...

(Sekaiichi) is a damn good band. Isshiki-san's recommendation.

Was kinda not too into it before coz they're quite Indie Rock (if not entirely). Of course, I like Indie rock but I am definitely more of a guitar rock person.

But anyways, have been overlooping their song 「夏の終わり、」 (Natsu no Owari) as of late. DAMN GREAT SONG YO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has a very soft, cheerful tone to the whole thing... (for a song named end of summer.... it's quite uplifting lol).

ANYWAYS!!! They're a good band. Check the song out.

Anyways it's quite amazing, Odaka-san has been posting a blog almost everyday since the beginning of this year, he's only missed like 3 or 4 days in the past 2 months. Is this his new year's resolution???? Coz it really seems like it! He did mention in one of the new year's post that he had wanted to post more last year because he wanted to record the events and the feelings but he always failed to do it and he hopes to do it more this year.... So kinda like a new year's resolution, no??? Coz it's really been almost EVERYDAY he has a post. Even if it's one line!!! "I'm tired after the live today, so see you tomorrow"... Wth...

side note on the pop-up:
Actually if ODK-san looked properly, the card is not really that well made yo. At least, I don't think so. It was helluva try tho, and it took ALOT ALOT ALOT of effort and care (for Elaine's standards or the lack thereof! hahahaha)...
Anyway, I used to much cellophane tape to tape down the legs of the layers, so when I glued the base to mounting board, there was too much air caused by the tape, and the base was not as firmly mounted as I would have liked it to be. Also, because of that, when the pop-up is opened, the stress of the layers begins to cause creases along the base. Damn I really hated that, coz it was ruining the whole damn pop-up.
Also, because this final version was a little different from the original prototype I had made, some of the layers (especially the hands of the "fans") were overlapping and therefore tearing at each other when you opened it. It was such a mess, I had to reinforce the vulnerable and most tear-able parts with small strips.
And because there are 4 layers to each side (and essentially 8 layers when you close the card), the layers were pushing each other down even more. I already had trouble trying to get the pop-up to actually pop-up 90 degrees, with the compounded pressure of layers pushing each other down (when closed), it was such a bitch trying to get the layers to come upright. Even in the end, I was totally dissatisfied with "Sou"'s side of the card. Because his figure was never in a 90 degree angle! All the pressure from being pressed down just made it impossible for it to rise 90 degrees when opened.
Aaaaaaaaaaa~~~ Sighhhhhhh.... Well... I tried my best, at the very least.... =(

Lunkhead Official Team and Official Goods Site!

OFFICIAL TEAM

Photobucket

OFFICIAL GOODS STORE

Photobucket

Alrite......... Well, does this mean they ain't breaking up?

Well, lets just hope so...

This news is late (sorry, I forgot to check the webpage for 2 days) but Lunkhead has just released their Official Team! I'm not too sure but it pretty much sounds like those exclusive band fan clubs where members can get special goods and CDs, as well as exclusive news and participation in events, oh, and also piority live tickets.

Yeah, I suppose, it's good news in the sense that this is confirmation that Lunkhead is really moving forward.... But I also feel that this is indication that Lunkhead is (finally) getting more commercialized and thus...... less personal、in a way, i suppose??? Or well, at least, they've just become LESS ACCESSIBLE.

I mean, I understand the concept of exclusive fanclubs where bands are really close to the fans, but doesn't that also mean exclusivity?

I guess I'm only saying this because I'm NOT in Japan, and it seems, to get that membership, I HAVE TO be residing in Japan....

Sigh, I feel bad and I DO NOT want to trouble any more of my Japanese friends for Lunkhead stuff AGAIN ANYMORE... So, I guess that's why I don't quite like it when bands make things so exclusive... It's harder to get in, I suppose...

It's still good news for the band, although not so much for fans like me, I suppose! But hey, we're fans, so.... the band is what's important, so!

I guess, I'll leave with that line from Gouda-san.

I want you to continue loving Lunkhead.
Because we also continue loving everyone.

I think, even if Lunkhead continues, without Ryou, it's not Lunkhead anymore.

Still, I hope they will continue.

I hope they would continue because I realize that, we too, hang our dreams on the wings of their dreams. And when they can't fly, I feel as if we too, can't soar in the sky. And when they disspear, I feel that a part of us too, dissapears with them.

Lunkhead said they will go on. I hope they will. I want to believe in their vague words that I can only partially comprehend--

But part of me, in my heart, I just have a very bad feeling that they would probably just break up after the new album is released in June. I hope not, but, I feel it is very likely to be so....

Because Lunkhead is four people, Lunkhead is four highschool friends-- and when they are not that anymore, I think.... maybe.... You know? It's like atomic bonds.... When together, they're held tightly together almost inseperable.... But when one atom is split away, the entire structure just blows apart, seperates entirely apart like being as forcefully repelled by the inseperable bonds that once held them together.

Get what I mean?

Odaka-san, didn't you say in live over and over again?

Why does this feel like the end, when you said, it was only the beginning?

Ryou was really great when I met him. I think he was the most friendly of the lot, even though we couldn't communicate at all. But he was very friendly, and he was very helpful. When I wanted my CD cover to be signed by everyone in the band but Yoshitaro was not around, he actually brought me and Tsuyoshi to be able to meet with Yoshitaro at their van. Then when we didn't have a pen for Odaka-san to sign the CD cover, Ryou went back inside the live house to get a pen for us. Thank you.

Also, Ryou, it will always be your words I remember during the live at Shinjuku LOFT for Lunkhead FORCE special release live. On the rooftop, the whole day it was going to rain, but it never rained although the clouds were very dark and looked like it was going to pour. After live, Ryou came back on staged and said something I could actually understand! haha, "Your force and our force combined has kept the rain up."

I think so.

And I want to believe.

And I want to keep in this dream with all of you- me, the fans and the band.

Considering that they almost broke up once in 2006 but they pull through and continued, continued long enough for them to give me a dream, for them to make a dream of mine to come true, thank you.

And I guess............. as sad as it would be...... as torn apart as wewould be....... as much as a part of our hearts would die with the end of their dream too......

still...

across this universe, our planets in our orbits in this galaxy, you and the cosmos...

for that one moment, in that one dream, in these songs you have given to us, to me, that has moved me with the beauty of your melodies, in all the moments that those songs have kept me through the days and nights in the past 3 years...

Haih... I don't think I was this depressed when Finch broke up or when Blink-182 broke up and when Taking Back Sunday almost broke up.....

Ah well... TBS pulled through, didn't they? Looks like completely new band, but they're still there. Finch completely broke down but in the end got back up together again, didn't they?

Oh well....

As in the words of Komorebi... 「

Lunkhead Myspace Interview!!!

Looks like Lunkhead really is becoming more and more and more famous!!!

Well you know my opinion on bands becoming more famous... It's always a great and exciting thing... But on the flip side of it, you know what becoming famous means... Anyway, I'm not in Japan, so it's not really that adverse!

Anyway!! It's exciting!!! Lunkhead myspace interview is actually on the front page of the Japanese myspace page!!! Isn't that like totally awesome?????

Photobucket

Well, I had to sign up for a new Japanese myspace account because damn myspace keep giving me the error "this page is not currently available in your language". Wth...
So i signed up to "read" the article... Well, I can't exactly read it................................ so i signed up to look at the article........ =.=

Photobucket

ANYWAY!.... also on Lunkhead being more famous, their last.fm playcount is actually at 160,000 now!!!!!!!!! Last year this time, it was only at 60,000-80,000 if I remember correctly! Now they're up to 160,000!!!! WOW!!!!!

Photobucket

Tsubaki (つばき), unfortunately, is only at 100,000! >_<

The two bands started off at the same playcounts and LOOK!!! Lunkhead is like 60,000 plays more than Tsubaki!! >__<

Oh and shoutout to Ame!!!! Top Listener!!!!! ^___^

Lastly.... I just realized that Art-School's latest Best Album, Ghosts&Angels, cover is a color gradient =____=;; wth...

Lunkhead - Tsubaki - Icons~~~

Fuuuuuwaaaaa~~~~ This time it can REALLY be called Lunkhead and Tsubaki Icons!!! (Sorta!)

Anyway, here are the icons for the past 3 days~~

Odaka Yoshitaro - Letters to You

Photobucket

Ok... ODK-san, I'm sorry, kinda cheated on this one, huh.... Can't even see his face :(
Anyway, I downloaded alot of textures, and I kinda, learnt something about using layer masking, yeap... just learnt it..... So, wanted to try out techniques more than anything else..... Kinda failure... :(

ISHIKAWA RYO - Everyday Happy!

Photobucket

WOAH!!!!! An icon of Ishikawa-san!!!! woahhhh~~~~~~ Yeah, okay, I know I can't use this icon for the 50 icon challenge count, butttttt.... Ishikawa has really nice pictures, and he always takes really enthusiastic pictures too!!

Okamoto Naoko - I Should Be Your Girl *ahem* *ahem*

Photobucket

Hola! I like to make colorful ones of Okamoto-san!!! Hmmm... However, this icon was really hard for me... took me 6 hours and I'm not happy with the final product.... I don't like the font for the text... I tried redoing it with other fonts too but for some reason, the text just blends into the background and won't stand out...

Isshiki Noriyasu - ROCKSTAR

Photobucket

His icons seems to be really cluttered all the time!!! lol.... Anyway, this was a failure of some sorts... I actually wanted to put the text "Death Cab Rulz"... hahaha.... I got the idea after I looked at Tsubaki's myspace page and their Number 1 Top 20 friend was Death Cab For Cutie ;)
But anyway, I couldn't put that text in the end coz of the way i cropped the pic... there wasn't really any space for the text....

and LOOK! This was how I intended Okamoto-san's icon to be ;)

Icon - Tsubaki Isshiki Noriyasu Lucky Cat!Photobucket

Muahahahahahha~~~ So, ahem... Yeah........ I should be your girl......」

Well... I turned 26 today..... and I got unemployed yesterday. So here I am, turning 26, jobless, directionless, clueless....

I didn't remember Lunkhead's "前進/僕/戦場へ Age26" version today until I heard it...... I wish I could sing the words in the lines with Yoshitaro... I wish I had that confidence, that hope in this life to be able to sing this battle song...

To think, hey, at the age of 26, they were in the band, released Lunkhead self-titled album...

Now I, at that same age, stand here-- what do I have in my hand?

Lunkhead Live Radio Program on Waikiki Records

So... I guess this is as close as I'll get to "seeing" and "hearing" Lunkhead live this year........ Radio show..............

I RSS Lunkhead's blog on my google reader and erm... check it.... almost every fifteen minutes (if I'm in front of the comp)..... So came back from tuition today at 6.... And went to check google reader for updates from Tsubaki or Lunkhead.... ODK-san posted something, so went to check it and it turned out to be a live online radio show~~! Starts at 6:45pm Japan time... that'd make it 5:45 Malaysian time~~~

So~~ I got to "watch" and "listen" to the last 15 minutes of the program~~ It was a radio program of Odaka-san and Yamashita-san with Waikiki Records. I'm sad I missed the first 15 tho... But I guess it doesn't matter, since I can't understand anything anyway! wth.... That's so pathetic.....

I think they were talking alot about live..... And talked about the upcoming live shows in december as well as the tour in Spring.

Oh, and Odaka-san mentioned Isshiki-san too..... I didn't quite understand what they were talking about.... But it was something about Odaka-san and Isshiki-san... <3 I think it's about them being really popular and sought after in live by the ahem.... fans.... hmmm lol!

Anyway~ with the handy media ripper, I managed to rip the live stream of the show~~ well, the last 15 minutes of the show i managed to catch anyway~~

I've uploaded it on mediafire if there's anyone who's interested in listening to it~ ^__^

http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=cd9957c11cb351ded2db6fb9a8902bda

Here are screen caps of the show~~~

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

I wanted to capture one of Odaka-san smiling..... Yoshitaro has such a cute and nice smile ^____^ And I got the cap~~!

Photobucket

Dunno what they were doing here after the show ended.... (there was no audio, guruguru (from Lunkhead's Fuka album) was playing. They were just standing and chatting before they left)

Photobucket

Was really sad to watch ODK-san and Yamashita san walk off screen..... It's like that sinking feeling when the show ends, and the bands walks off the stage..... THAT has to be the worst feeling ever.

Was quite sad to hear Odaka-san live and somewhat seeing the images live too (no thanks to streamyx, there was alot of delay and buffer) but not actually being there, like a live =(

erm... Yamashita-san doesn't talk much, does he?!

Icon Dump 1~~

Okay.... I got 4 new Icons~~~

Odaka-san "Don't Look Back"

I was quite indecisive about this one..... Wasn't sure about the text and also the cropping for t his picture.... I wanted to put the text "don't turn around", or "don't look back" or, "please don't go"... etc... etc... And I admit, it's a really simple i con huh??? Sorry~~

Isshiki-san~~! Music Star~~

The texture I wanted to use at first was completely different from the one I ended up using. COMPLETELY different.

Okamoto-san.... TSUBAKI QUEEN~~!!

Was thinking... I'd put Okamoto as Queen, Isshiki-san as prince, and Ogawa-san as Knight!! hehe

And FINALLY....... "I like you the way you are"...... Isshiki-san....

I wanted to make an icon with this text for a long time... But wasn't sure which pic to use... Couldn't decide to use ODK or Isshiki's pic.... One of the Odaka's pic was really great, but Yoshitaro was toooooooooooo cute there... i mean it TOOOO cute.. it was the perfect picture and I just couldn't do anything with it... It was already perfect the way it was....
Then when I was scanning Tsubaki's pictures, I saw this pic of Isshiki-san.... I had a feeling I'd use this picture... I like the tone and expression in the pic and I thought it was suitable for the text =)

Photobucket
ODK too cute~

Anyway!!! I decided to make an ICON DUMP~~~!!!! It's easier to keep track and find the icons I've made for the LJ icon challenge purpose!

Icon dump for Lunkhead and Tsubaki icons...

I joined the LJ 50 icons challenge for Odaka Yoshitaro and つばき (tsubaki). For Odaka-san, I made the claim at Jmusic50 community and Tsubaki was at Japan50.

I chose Odaka-san (duh) because... urm... I like Odaka-san??? hahaha.. Maybe I should have claimed a band for Lunkhead also, instead of just 50 for Yoshitaro.... Let's see, maybe I'll ask the moderator if I can change my claim. But Jmusic50 is quite strict with their icon rules, I think that's why I didn't claim the whole band, because if I claimed the band, every icon has to have 2 or more members, and it can't be just one band member... and there aren't enough pictures of the whole band... Yoshitaro has alot of pics on his own... hehe....

But... that's why, for Tsubaki, I made a band claim at Japan50 instead. I don't think I even have 50 pictures of any one member of Tsubaki, much less 50 pictures that can be made into icons. But Japan50 is not so strict and for band claims, the icons can have any one member of the band or the whole band. I think I'll have enough pics for that...

But anyway, right now.... I don't even have 20 icons for Odaka-san or Tsubaki yet :(

Still a long way to go :(

Err.... And here are the old Plastic Tree icons:
