Fandoms

If I could bottle the sexual tension between Bonnie Franklin and Shnyder, I could solve the energy crisis.                                                                               - Troy, Reality Bites

So, as you know, I'm prone to living in fantasy, to say the least!

Anyway, in any case, MUSIC aside, talking about fandoms and people we "ship", I think there are THREE combi / couples, I think I legitimately have shipped FOR A VERY LONG TIME. But, yeah there are only three, actually.

***Disclaimer: As I said, it's just a FANTASY shipping. I absolutely respect the individuals' ACTUAL partners IN REAL LIFE yo.***

やまはるコンビ/Yamaharu!

Yamada Ryousuke and Yamaguchi Haruna. Yamaharu!

They're just so cute together!! I'll be writing more on this later, so I'll keep it short here, but the both of them acted together in Kindaichi Shounen Jikenbou (金田一少年の事件簿) back in 2013 & 2014 and I think I've shipped them since I first saw them on screen together.

Charlotte & Tim

Tim Wheeler and Charlotte Hatherley! Well, this one I'm sure most people know by now. I super think they're so cute together. But alas, it's just a fantasy! (Chaz recently had her first baby! Congrats!).

Charlotte was the reason why I RE-notice Ash. I liked the bad from 1977 (the album, not the year), but it was Charlotte appearing on the backcover of the A Life Less Ordinary single that I really took notice and was obsessed with Ash.

I used to have the picture on my laptop wallpaper and I would wake up to the picture every morning and say a little prayer that Tim and Chaz would end up together but alassssss.... Life is Reality boo :(

David & Gillian

WELLLLLL... this needs no saying, the mother lode of all fandoms. Did you know that it was David and Gillian and their electrifying chemistry that actually COINED the term "SHIP", as in to support the pairing of a fictional character?

YEAH.

The word didn't even exist before David and Gillian on The X-Files. Sooooo... That says it all!

ほし

When we leave the heat of the city and enter into the sparse dim lights of the country, as we draw closer, the cold, the darkness envelopes.

“What do you really lose if you lose him? Seriously.” He asked.

There was no answer because I didn’t know.

Maybe I’ll lose the sweetness of a memory that’s now dead and gone.

Maybe I’ll lose a connection I thought I might have had.

Maybe I’ll lose...

Maybe I’d lose.

“I don’t know,” I answered.

Because I really didn’t know or I just couldn’t articulate the feeling of loss that’s in my heart.

I don’t know.

And still those nights in your car remain.

And those conversations we had.

As few as they were.

As superficial as they were.

Maybe that’s what I’m sad to lose, but then... what’s there to lose if it’s already gone?

Happiness is..

So.. last weekend, I went out with Aki again.
It’s been quite awhile since we last went out for the first time again last year and even longer since we last hung out so much, not since THAT DAY, when I sent him THAT email that destroyed everything... which was basically 5 years ago.

He suggested going out of town on Saturday but it was snowing. Then, we didn’t get a hold of each other till Sunday morning, and since it was too late to get out of town, we decided to just go to Oedo Onsen in Odaiba.

So we met for lunch in Odaiba, went to the hot spring and then we went back to his place and I stayed over.

We talked a lot and we also talked about his family.

I think a lot has happened, and I also think some things are still the same.

That said...

We were watching on TV, a reality tv show kind of program about a former pro-wrestler who married a B-list celebrity blogger who has 7 kids and now he has 8 with a 9th coming along.

THE SHOW WAS TOOOO REAL.

But... watching the show, it made me think of Hoshino.

Coz the wrestler was now a bus driver and he works till really late. He comes home around 10pm or midnight and he would eat dinner then.

It made me feel bad for Hoshino too because... I think that’s what his life is too sometimes. And I’m sure he must be tired.

I had texted Hoshino that day to tell him I’m going to see him for ORPICA on the 24th but he hadn’t even replied during his lunch break.
I thought I could text him coz I was going to be with Aki, so I’m sufficiently distracted from being sad if he didn’t reply.
But I was NOT distracted and felt so sad when he didn’t reply by 5pm.
And then when he texted back at 9:20, it was a lackluster reply which I was disappointed by too.

But watching that TV show made me feel bad for him.
I felt, I should show him some support, I should acknowledge his tiredness, I should show him maybe I understand and care.
So I decided to text him and tell him Otsukare.
He responded quite cheerfully which I felt happy by too.

Sigh. I’m so simple.

So... that said, fortunately or unfortunately.... I still love hanging out with Aki coz he’s always up for going somewhere and doing things I like to do too (like going on trips), so I really appreciate him.
But that said, fortunately or actually more unfortunately, it seems like I do still have feelings for Hoshino, and I don’t think that’s good.

I hope I can talk to him on the 24th, and I hope that if nothing is to come out of this, I’ll be able to sever my feelings for him then.
I need to.
For my own sake.

God Doesn't Only Speak in English

Yeahhhh so today I went to Church. Yeahhhhh.... I'm staying in Shin-Okubo, and this place is known as Tokyo's Korea Town...... So there are actually lots of Churches here... So I went to a Church...

It turned out to be a Lutheran Church.

I saw the flier outside the church when i first got here and saw they had English service on Sundays. I missed last week service coz I overslept but ahahaha I made it today! I ALMOST wanted to oversleep again BUTTTTT... I thought I'd be cool to go to Church here in Japan, since I've NOT been doing ANY tourist stuff in Tokyo AT ALL since I got here, I thought it'd be nice to go to Church for the experience of it! lols...

They had a combined service today, Candlelight Service, to begin the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of their Church which is in 2012 (3 years ahead! wow!)

Photobucket

I like methodical churches! There's always a order of worship! ahahahah...

Anyway, so the whole service was in Japanese but I got English version of the order of worship. Actually, they have a priest there who is American (his accent sounded American), but today was a combined worship in Japanese. They also had the hymns in English for the English speaking congregants (is this even a word??).... But of course everyone else was singing in Japanese... And the Confirmation of Faith and Lord's Prayer was also in Japanese, but of course, those non-Japanese speakers said it in English.... softly hehehe...

Photobucket

And some parts, we had to sing in Japanese... But the song sheet had ROMAJI there! So, just read the romaji yo.... I tried to understand what was being sung.... But to little avail... lols.

Photobucket

Anyway, the sermon was also in JAPANESE.... But they actually had an English translation of the whole thing!!!

Photobucket

Well, I couldn't understand fully and specifically what the pastor was saying... But I think I understood enough to follow his sermon while reading the part in English....

His sermon today was about "God with Us". Through our suffering and through our questions of WHY.

I was really touched by two parts of his sermon that I felt God was talking to me...

One part was when he talked about when Jesus died, Jesus said "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?".....
Many years before, when I was at the Easter service in KL Wesley, these words really struck me at that time because I had thought about how indescribable the pain was to Jesus at that time... NOT THE PHYSICAL PAIN AT ALL.... But to imagine Christ being seperated from GOD. It's like for those hours, GOD Himself was torn away from Himself... And just imagine Jesus, who has been in commune with God from eternity to eternity, for those hours, GOD HAD TURNED AWAY!!!! IMAGINE THAT PAIN!!!!!!! I think, it cannot be imagined.

But today, I got a new meaning from that... When I was pondering on those words, what the pastor had said was about how Jesus himself had to suffer like we did, that HE felt that God was not even there... JESUS you know!....

And I felt those words touch me cause, I guess... although I know it was me who ran away from God, but I felt as if my prayers had fallen to deaf ears... That God wasnt there listening anymore..... But Jesus too, felt the same thing, EVEN EVEN EVEN EVEN MORE... I mean for a sinner like me to feel God is not there... and for JESUS to feel God was not there!

And... The second part was "God with Us"...

And the pastor talked about a girl he had met and prayed for.... Who had been sick her whole life.... and seemingly cursed and wrecteched.... What words could he use to comfort her?? It's like EASY to tell people reasons.... But when you are really going through pain and doubt... all you can think about is "WHHY????????" the eternal why.....!!!!

And the pastor said, while he gave the holy communion to her, a thought came to him... and it was that, at this very moment, while partaking in Jesus's body and His blood, God accepted her as she was, with all her questions and whys and no answers, but God took her in as she is...

The same way... I really feel.... REALLY REALLY wrecthed about the whole Snake ordeal and I CANNNOT CANNOT understand what God has me to learn from this... Why God, why didn't You just let me leave back in April and I would have NEVER have met him and I would have NEVER had got into this BIG PILE of mess and screwed up an ENTIRE YEAR, WASTED.

But as I am, SINNER as I am, not just with questions, but with hurt and YES, with BLAME (wrongly).... And even although EVERYTHING was my fault for persisting in a completely wrong relationship, and in the end blaming God for it.... I guess.... God still accepts me with all these imperfection in me.

God with Us.

Indeed.

True God to True God.

You know whether it's in Japanese, Arabic, Thai, Korean or Spanish... God doesn't only speak in English, God doesn't only speak in one language.

I'm glad God let me worship Him, True God to True God, even here in Japan... And allowed me to take part in Holy Communion with Him here with our Family in Japan... Even with all my doubt, even with all my hurt, even with all my blame.

I wonder if I'll be okay.

I want to know that I'll be okay as long as God is with me.

I really hope that can be true.

Oh... by the way... in their Holy Communion, they used real wine!! And also... the priests said in Japanese, "あんたのために、クリストの体。” which literally means... "The body of Christ, for you," and also, "あなたのため、クリストの血。" which literally means... "The blood of Christ, for you,"

Waaa~ I understood.... lols.

JAPAN: 見つける旅は続くはず。

They say that the waters of the Kumo River flows forever...

Photobucket

I've been thinking about life alot recently and I've been meaning to write very much about it but just never got around to it.

I have been thinking that... In my life, I want to be with a guy who can bring out the best in me and I in him.

I recongnize what Snake had changed in me...

Before I met him, I had always wanted to live my life my way, and I didn't give a damn about having anyone with me... But after I had met him, I just felt that... yes, I do want someone in my life, to share my life with... Because companionship cannot be replaced, and there is a certain comfort to having a companion with you all the time.... And human connection is something that cannot be replaced.

So, I think I DO want someone in my life later on.... But, when I think about it... That is the only thing I think I want to ask God in a guy.... that he can bring out the best in me, because I think that is the MOST IMPORTANT for me... I want that the most.

Because for the past 5 months, I think it had brought out nothing but the worst in me. He wouldn't have been such an asshole if I wasn't as much an ass for him to be an asshole with... get me? And the way we brought it crashing to an end, and the aftermath of the worthlessness I feel from it, is just such crap...

And it was through that, to see how much of MYSELF i had LOST in the past 5 months... In fact, I lost everything.... I'm not blaming him, but I blame myself for having made him my world and in doing so, I lost my own sense of self or worth or value along with it...

And it's through thinking about this that I really realize that.... I really want someone who can bring out the best in me... Whom I can be who I am with, who can take my worst and make it good, and take my best and make it shine... You get me?

That's what I really want.

That said, would I have wanted someone to come with me on this trip?

HELL NO.

I like being on my own on this trip... Yes, it was kinda pathetic, if you want to think that way.... I was on my own in Kyoto for two days without any friends around... I just went shopping around because I wanted to go shopping... But I really liked it that way cause I really enjoyed going around Shijo on my own...

My hotel was right in the center of Shijo and bascially once I got down, I was in the middle of the whole action... So it was really fun, it was really fun having Shijo as your backyard... Seriously!!!

And on the morning I had arrived at Kyoto at 5am, I hung around Kyoto station till about 10, and I went to the hotel at Shijo then... I couldn't check in till 3, so i just kept my bag there and went to Shijo to shop...

I sat at a cafe, then went to get some gifts, then I walked around more looking for stuff to buy... I was looking to buy a Kimono coz I wanted to wear one to Desmond's wedding..

Then I went to a second hand clothes shop and they had a Kimono section there with lots and lots of used kimonos... There was a sale section and it was quite cheap... Just 1500円 for a kimono... So I decided to buy one there... OF COURSE I didn't know ANYTHING about Kimono... So i went to the counter and there were two sales person there... So I went..

Summimasen, kimono o kaitai kedo, kimono no koto ga zenzen wakarimasen.. Chotto oshiete kudasai.... (i should have used a "masen" here... I think!) (Excuse me, I want to buy a kimono but I don't know anything about kimono, could you please teach me?)

But Woah! ANd the dude understood... So he followed me and showed me what I should do... He told me I had to pick out a Kimono, then the undergarment then the obi.... Then I asked him "nandemoii?"... And he said, it's better that the kimono and the Obi were the same material...

Then I said, Ok, I'll go look, then I'll ask again...

SO I did.. I went to pick out a DARK kimono... COz I thought it's ridiculous wearing a kimono to Dez's wedding anyway! So i didn't want to stand out by wearing a briiiiiiiiiiiight-colored one!!!!

So, I got the kimono, then I went back to the dude and asked him waht I should pick next.... Then he said I had to pick an undergarment... And he said the length of the sleeves had to be the same for both....

And so the both of us went searching for an undergarment that matched the Kimono and ALSO had the same length.... Which was like DAMN difficult. Ahahahahahaha..

So we went around measuring the undergarments until we finally found suitable one....

Then after that, we went to look for a suitable Obi too... And AGAIN we spent like LOTS AND ALOTS of time searching for an obi... I think he was in a hurry coz he kept looking at his watch but anyway, he kept helping me to get an obi...

We came down to two, and he asked me if I wanted to try it and see....

So we went to the changing room and he helped me put in the undergarment and kimono and all that and helped me to tie the whole thing up.... Then he helped me to tie the obi and all WHICH WAS NOT LONG ENOUGH T_T

Then i said "too fat, ne?" then he said "iie, iie..." and retied the obi so it'd fit... ahahahahaha...

Anyway, in the end I asked him which obi he thought was nicer coz I didn;t know anything about obi anyway, and he picked one out politely..

So I bought the kimono.

Anyway, after that... I came up with an idea to ask if he wanted to go out for a drink or something if he was free.... (OK, I KINDA FORGOT THIS AIN'T AMERICA!!!!!!!! AND SHIT LIKE THESE WILL NEVER WORK!!!! IT'S JAPAN FORGOODNESS SAKE!)... I mean, it's not like it's anything just a drink or anything...

But u can imagine that with MY japanese...

Damn I probably gave out a TOTALLY damn wrong impression.

Ahahaha..

SO it went..

"Summimasen" (excuse me)
He saw me and I was considering if I should buy the strings I needed to tie the kimono and all that... So he asked if I wanted to buy the strings... Then I said maybe... then I said...
"Summimasen kedo, kyou wa hima desu ka?" (Are you free today?)
ANd he went reluctantly... "kyou wa...." (Today...)
Then I said, "Shigoto no ato de jikan ga arimasu ka? Moshi hima nara, chotto isshoni gohan wo tabemasen ka?" (After work, do you have time? If you do, would you like to go for a meal together?) (wah! It was ISSHOU NI GOHAN WO TABEMASEN KA? which is like would you like to eat meal together... Ahahahahaha)
And he said something something in Japanese I couldn't totally understand but I started with "Gomen"... So it was MOST PROBABLY A NO GO!!! ahahahahah...
Then I said
"Ashita wa dou?"
then he said, "Ashita wa yasumi kara, koko de inai". (oooo, he used informal form! buy I'm a client!)
Then I said which sounded EVEN MOREEEEEEEEEEE wrong was...
"Watashi wa chikaku no hotel ni tomarimasu kara... itsu demo ii... Tada, ima koko ni hitori de, chotta hanashitai dake" (I live in a hotel near here... *WTF?!*, so anytime is okay *wtf?!?!?!*..... Just that I am here alone, I just want to talk...*wtttfff?*)
Wth.............
Anyway.... It was just like totally wrong dude!! It was as if I wanted to sleep with him or something ahahahahahaha...
Anyway I even asked if he lived in Kyoto... and even like OFFERED to meet in Kyoto Station but it was "DAME!" NOOOOOOO GOOO!!!! ahahahahahhaha.

BUT ANYWAYS, it was a no go but... Well, at least I tried...

And HEY! At least I had ENOUGH broken Japanese to ask someone out!!!

(albiet unsuccessfully! But he got my drift! ahahahahaha)

ahahahahahahhaah..

Anyway, his name was Kogawa Juiichi.

He was kinda cute =)

And his hands and fingers looked really nice too =) (eh, u know how i have a thing for guys' hands ahahahahahah)

But I guess... Well, I'm glad I'm able to want to meet other guys, u know?

And albiet unsuccessful, maybe there's a silver lining...

You know, before I came to Japan, I thought to myself, I won't return here anymore for awhile.... I told myself there were other places to see, different things to experience and I've already been to Japan 3 times.... Next, I would want to go to another part of the world.... I thought about that... And I thinking that, it also meant that I was giving up my dream to teach in Japan....

Because the whole thing about Snake and how lucky Lina is to be chosen and to be so important and lucky to be with him had really really crushed me.... That I felt even if I achived all my dreams... what is it worth in the end? Is my life even worth anything? Does my life even have meaning? Not to say being with Snake gives it meaning.. NO WTF NO.... But rather that, it just made me question the value of the dream I had till now, to work and live in Japan... Is it really that important? Will humanity be helped by this dream? Will my life have meaning and value in the end even if I reached this dream?

It had really made me reevaluate my goals...

But you know what.... I think it was just being around Kyoto again and travelling around so much around Japan....

And even if I am NOT incredibly thrilled the whole time, there are droplets and just brushing moments where I take a breath and just suddenly feel a joy in my heart, a peace perhaps, and a smile.... to be so grateful and happy that I can be here, that i AM here... in Japan...

And in those moments accumulated and in all the things I saw around me.... I guess, I fell in love with Japan again....

I had really lost my interest and my dream in Japan in that 5 months with Snake.... Even when I was coming here, and while I was with him... .I really felt "I would be happier if I could be with him and just having fun with him"...

But, you know what?, right now, even right now after I've just cried about him..... I said FUCK THAT.

I rather be here in Japan. Without him.

And I really really want to be here again. I want to live here and I want to work here and be around and IN this culture and IN this country for at least a few years....

I found my dream again.

I still want it.

But sometimes, when I think about it.... the feeling that remains in my heart is not of love.... but there is still just a deep hurt.... So deep that I still cry sometimes and I just did, talking to Mayuko just now.... I'm still very hurt and I'm still very worried that when I get back to Malaysia, I'm going to just go back to square one... I'm just gonna end up weak again...

I don't want to need him anymore, I just don't want to give a fuck about him anymore-- and in my heart right now, I don't. I don't give a shit..... But, I'm still so hurt.... He STILL makes me cry and that CANNOT be good.... And that's what I want to heal from, that's what I want to end.

I want to be free of EVERYTHING of him.

I want to be able to look at him and feel ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

I don't know if I can even right now.

I'm just so scared when I get home, EVERYTHING is gonan be the same again... My stupid heart will be the shit that it was AGAIN.

I'm worried.

I guess it's like that Sekaiichi song.... "Mitsukeru tabi wa tsuduku hazu..."

I guess this journey of looking continues...

God, I just want to be happy, God.... That's all I ever wanted to be.

The guy was really quite cute, seriously =)

And I'm happy I had enough bad japanese to ask him out, at least! ahahaha =D

Day 1: And I still can't open an onigiri correctly

Photobucket

Onigiri. Why does the nori of my onigiri STILL get torn even if there are CLEARRRRRRR GRAPHICAL instructions on how to tear the plastic out correctly!

So I promised myself I won't cry in Japan. I promised myself, that I MUSTN'T.

But I remember, there had been only twice before that had I cried when a plane took off... One was when I left Malaysia for America... and the next was when I left America for Malaysia.... And the third was today.

I guess, it hurts being in Malaysia itself... There's just too many reminders about everything about him...

I know I will still think about him... But, I mustn't cry. Not in Japan.

Anyhow... I think today was the first day I hadn't thought about him a whole lot, actually, coz maybe I was thinking about Tsubaki more!!!

I was crying when I slept.... When I woke up, I saw this...

Photobucket

It was a really nice sunrise on the horizon..

and the clouds looked really pretty below..

Photobucket

Well anyway, the flight seemed short... and we touched down at Narita... I think I spent a total of 10 minutes in Tokyo... From the Narita Express, into the corridors of Tokyo Station and 5 minutes later, on the Shinkansen bound for Kyoto.

Anyway, I met up with Cindy in Kyoto and we had lunch together... After that, she took me to the hotel and the livehouse... The livehouse was nearer to the station than the hotel but she suggested we go to the hotel first before we picked the tickets up from the livehouse...

Photobucket
Hotel, 50 bucks! Nice and reasonable too!

After putting stuff in the hotel, we went to the livehouse...

There was NO ONE there.... But all of TSUBAKI's equipment were all in the corridor... I was hoping we could meet the band, and then, two people walked in and I recognized one of them to be OKAMOTO-SAN!!!

Cindy approached Okamoto-san and asked her about the reservation for the tickets... She told us to wait and went to get her phone... Then I told Cindy she was the drummer... Then I asked her, "Okamoto-san desu ka?" and she said, "Hai."

Then she went up to call someone...

We were on our way out, coz some guy told us that we werent' suppose to be there... As we were going back up, Okamotosan came back down with ISSHIKISAN!!!!! mauahahahahahahaha...

SOMEHOW, it's DAMNNNNNNNN weird, but Isshiki-san was handling all the online booking through the Tsubaki website!

Cindy talked some stuff to them about the booking which I totally didn't understand... Anyway Isshiki-san just told us, it's okay, I can just give my name at the ticket counter, then I can get the ticket later... since it's not sold out...

When they were mentioning my name, Isshiki mentioned about the letters I wrote to them.. Then Cindy asked me if I had written them any letters and I said I did... SOOOOOO... Isshiki-san got the letters and remembered it!!!

Anyway, I managed SOME Japanese and told them I will be going for their live on 23rd and 29th too.. Then Isshikisan said that he remembers my name for the 23rd.. Then he checked his phone and asked for my last name... So Cindy told him "Loh" and he said "Oh yes,"

Anyhoo, I guess u gotta as CINDY for what Isshiki-san and Okamoto-san really said... hahahahha..

Oh yeah I also said "Soshite, Isshikisan, Omedetou Gozaimasu."... He looked at Okamotosan and laughed, then he bowed and said thank you.

Anyways, that led us to ask them for a picture =D.... And Isshikisan said it was alright... And it would be better to take it now, coz after the live, there are too many people anyway.....

So we took a picture!!!

Photobucket

Ato de, I asked for autograph! AT LEAST I could say "sign ga ii desu ka?" ahahahhahahaha~

Anyway, they were both cool about it =D

ANyways, that was it!

That was Tsubaki!!!

Isshikisan is a little different from how I had imagined him to but... He's a lot smaller, for one thing ahahhahaha... But still cute, ne!

Anyway, Cindy left after that... and I went to take a walk around, since it was early...

Photobucket

Photobucket

Anyway.... After that, I went back to the hotel and went online...... TYpical me ahahahah... ACTUALLY, my leg hurts ALOT...... (excuses). SERIOUSLY! I travelled alot ok!!!

ANyway, I thought it was a really good way to start out everything... Meeting Isshiki-san and Okamoto-san...

While I was walking around.. I was thinking.... Actually, I didn't feel as HIGH or EXCITED as I had been when I met Odaka-san two years ago... I remember my heart was racing like MAD and I could not smiling the whole damn night.... But meeting Isshiki-san was almost like normal...

But that said, I realize I also thought about *him* (THE GUY) less... I also felt as if, the feeling of hurt and pain just seem a little further away...

Maybe it's just like a temporary drug (Isshiki-san and Tsubaki hahahaha) induced conscious coma... But I damn hope it lasts.

But I remember, the day after I left *him*... I remember that i told myself "it's okay, Elaine," and I thought to myself, "If i got to meet Isshiki-san, I think I will be okay," and that's why I had really wanted to meet him and I was really praying to God to let me meet him..

And really, I feel that with the great timing and AGAIN, the unexpected chance of SUDDENLY just being able to meet Isshikisan and Okamotosan without even thinking we could... We did... And Thank You God.. for having granted me this one silly prayer...

Anyway... I went to the live but was too early for it, so I decided I would walk to Kamo River.... On the Subway map it didn't look that far and I really felt like seeing the river... So i walked it......

IT WAS FAR.

But well... at least I saw it :)

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Well the whole walk from the livehouse to Kamo River and back actually took A WHOLE HOUR...

When i got back to the livehouse, I could get in to buy the ticket... Ogawasan was there!!!!!! But I didn't talk to him!!!!!!! :(

I had really wanted to! But i was buying the ticket, and when I was done, he had finished packing the goods table :(

Sorry, Ogawasan, I really wanted to say hello~~~!

He was as cool as ever. hahhhaha!

Anyway..... when I was waiting for the live to start... I really felt too old perhaps.... I'm already 27, u know? I'm not 19 or 20 anymore like I was when I went for all the shows in America... I'm NOT a youth anymore.... Maybe i AM too old for this shit!!!

But really but inside me, jsut waiting there and when i was walking around thinking about the live, it just gets my heart beating in anticipation for the show!

It's just awesome, you know, BEING THERE IN THE PIT!!!!!!

That said, there are actually ALOT more older people in Japanese shows... THere were a few women who were at least 40 there, u know...

SO MAYBE I AM NOT TOO OLD AFTER ALL!!!

Anyway............

The band came on and BAM! the first song started, I almost just cried when I heard "Dekiru nara waratte...."...

It was Kinou no Kaze...............

While the didn't play Katamichi Kippu....... Starting with that song just made everything so complete....

Last year, around this time actually, when I was feeling absolute shit about SriKDU.... I was listening to this song EVERYDAY....

And everytime Isshikisan sang, "Ame no mukou ni nani ka aru?".....

At that time I always felt there TOO was something waiting for me after this rain.... After all these shit, there HAS TO BE something for me beyond that... I really believed that at that time...

And I guess, it's a feeling I want to have back now...

To believe, that after this rain, there is something waiting for me too...

Photobucket

ANYWAY... nothing beats the ringing in your ears, the air thick with the mass of bodies moshed together, the sensation of wind blowing in after the show.... DAMN, I really miss this feeling you know? Whether I am getting old or not, I relaly don't want to think about it... If i can keep myself thinking mentally I am perpetually 20, I WOULD.....

I will never stop going for show, I NEVER want to feel i am too old for this shit, you know... It's just.... too alive, for me to feel I'm too old for this anymore...... I don't want to feel that at all!

So after the live... there was a crowd getting out and lining up to buy Tsubaki goods...

Then as we were waiting, Isshikisan came out to meet the fans and to SELL stuff.... He's so wonderful to do that, you know... Considering he'd have to meet like 400 over people and shake the hands of over 400 people... But he did that.

And so when it came to my turn he was like "oh! Hello,"... I DIDN'T say anything to him at all except "this" and "this"... and he was so nice to take he things.. Then he said the total was "blah blah blah" and OF COZ, it was too fast and I was SUPER nervous, so i didn't get AT ALL what he said... ahahhaha.. So I just gave him all my money and he counted for me the amount and I said "sorry,"

Then he gave me the change and said "mata aimashou"... then he said "ah, 23nichi deshou?" then I said, "Hai," he was smiling and shaking my hands and THEN I TOOK MY HAND AWAY!!! he was a little shocked!! ahahahahahah.. DUDE, i wanted to shake his hands forever (very soft, his hands ahahahaha), but i don't know why i took my hand away when he was STILL GRABBING IT!!

DAMN STUPID ELAINE. U THInK EVERYDAY U GET TO TOUCH ISSHIKISAN???????????????????????????

Anyway....

My dad sent me on this trip, because he wants me to return home normal...

In the depths of my heart...

I really wish I will...

I really, really hope I'll have many more days like these....

Yes, it wasn't as exciting anymore when I met Isshiki-san... It was as if, I just can't feel truly truly excited or happy about anything.

Yes, I felt too old to be doing this shit standing there in the mosh pit with all these kids, yes, I feel that very much...

And yes, I don't know if all these temporary fleeting moments would even make a change or have any meaning at all when the day after tomorrow comes.

And yes, I don't know if this will even save me in the end, when i DO go back to Malaysia, will ALL the flood of pain return like before...

I Really don't know...

But what I do know is that...

I thought about *him* less today.

And right now, I sure as hell don't feel as bad as I did yesterday...

So thank You God, thank you dad, and yes, thank you Isshiki-san...

喜怒哀楽

i had a fight with him 2 days ago. it wasn't a fight but one of those heavy emotional talks. i was crying and i told him how i felt. not everything but partially. though everything i said came out wrong. but i told him i felt stupid. he asked me if I was jealous, but jealousy my friend, is such a messy feeling... it's never entirely all so clear cut, but how do i explain to him?

I want to destroy your happiness. HER happiness.

Such evil emotions, such an ugly feeling jealousy is. I think it's the most wreched feeling one can ever have.

But... it's not entirely about that.

He asked me, "what can i do so you won't feel like you're being used?"... It's not as if he gave a fuck or meant those words, but what can I say? Don't treat me like I'm your bitch anymore? Don't be such an asshole to me?

It's not like he can see how he's been treating me wrong. And I know he will say, "you're not even my girlfriend, why should i treat you nicer?"

Perhaps all i can say to that is "you should do it out of fucking common curtesy."

So i kept my mouth shut.

But i realized that day that perhaps the change isn't suppose to come from him but from me.

But I also realized that I have no fucking clue in this. I am completely utterly confused, incapable, unable.

You remember that time, when I liked Kevin. And he invited me out to a club one day in Seri Kembangan, I went with Debby and I got lost there. Kevin came like an hour late and I was completely lost.
That night I was incredibly totally mad at him and I scolded him and hung up on him and left the place.
But as I was driving and crying, as I always do, I decided to drive to his house and leave some muffins I had brought with me for him...

Debby could not understand why I did that.

BUT that is EXACTLY how I am.

And that is EXACTLY what I have totally been with him. Everyday, it's been like that.

No matter how much I hurt, how much I cry, how much I am dying inside seeing him, being with him, and seeing him touch and hold and love his girlfriend, how much he ignores me, uses me, misuses me.... I fucking go back.

Sometimes, i wonder if he is an asshole or I am the ass that created the asshole.

Sometimes I feel, he is the moster because I am the one who created him.

= silence =

For those who are still following this page..

"مرحبا"

I know I haven't written in a long time but that's because I guess I really don't know how to put into words what I have been feeling for the past two months or more.

And everytime I do have a thought formulated, the feeling of it changes in the wake of another dawn.

Everyday since meeting him has really, really, really been a wrecking experience of how fucked up I am and how fucked up I can be.

It has taught me the depths of stupidity I can sink myself into, and the extent to which I can masochistically continue to hurt myself despite seeing the truth.

And everyday, I am fluctuating between strength and peace to utter confusion, pain, hate jealousy, depression and dispair- all within the same 10 waking hours... Or make that every 5 minutes.

Sometimes I don't even know why I continue doing it when all feelings is gone. Sometimes, the feelings come back. Sometimes there's no reason, yet I do it. Sometimes I don't even want to do it anymore yet I continue to do it without reason or feelings.

What have I become, my sweetest friend?

思い出

So yeah, along with STD stuff...

I was listening to a whole bunch of old bands today... Movielife, Saves the Day, Taking Back Sunday, Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, The Format... and it really, really, really, really, realy reminded of all my friends and the things and memories of America...

I really missed all those great time, you know, going for shows...

I'm really serious, I really do think that my experience of America was so wonderful is because I went for all those shows and I guess for the first time in my life, I really, really, really truly did have a time of my life.

I miss it very very very much, especially on days like these..... And at times, I really wonder if I should have left at all... that perhaps it would have been better to have just been a secretary in Boston for the next 5 years... Because at least, then, I could have still gone for shows whenever I wanted to....

I really wonder sometimes if it was ever wise coming back...

And I always wonder if I traded in one dream for another...

Because I really did trade America, left America, for Japan.

Journey

You got how many bills to pay
And how many kids
And you forgot about
The things that we did
The town where we're living
Has made you a man
And all of your dreams
Are washed in the sand

Well it's alright
It's alright
Who are you and me to say
What's wrong and what's right
Do you still feel like me
We sit down here
And we shall see
We can talk
And find common ground
And we can just forget
About feeling down
We can just forget
About life in this town.

It's funny how your dreams
Change as you're growing old
You don't wanna be no spaceman
You just want gold
All the dream stealers
Are lying in wait
But if you wanna be a spaceman
It's still not too late

Well it's alright
And It's alright
Who are you and me to say
What's wrong and what's right
Do you still feel like me
We sit down here

And we shall see
We can talk
And find common ground
And we can just forget
About feeling down
We can just forget
About life in this town.

So over the weekend I met a guy from Japan, Aki, who has been cycling around Asia for the past six months. He started cycling last October from Hong Kong to China to Laos to Cambodia to Vietnam to Thailand and now in Malaysia and tomorrow to Singapore.

I met him through Sarah (my CELTA trainer in the British Council) who met Aki while she was cycling with her husband in Vietnam in December.

Anyway, on Saturday I took Aki out to Batu Caves and around town. It was a really, really enjoyable day, actually. One of the most enjoyable in a long time. I guess it's because we got to talk alot, also. Actually! It was the first time in my life I spoke almost entirely in Japanese for almost the entire day! It was really tiring!! Yes, climbing Batu Caves, driving through horrible traffic around town, AND speaking in Japanese the whole day!

Anyway, we went to Batu Caves ANDDDDD I managed to climb all 272 steps without dying... For him who has cycled for more than 6000km it's a stroll in the park, of course!!! But dude, I almost died! lol... Anyway, it's damn weird but what happened to the whole colony of monkeys at Batu Caves. There weren't ANY AT ALL on the steps up!! And there were barely 5 of them at the top part of the temple... WEIRD!

Anyway, after surviving the climb and the descent, we're talking about me of course, I then took him back to BU for lunch at Banana Leaf. Yeah okay, boring me, I hardly ever go out, so i had no idea what nice place to take him yo!!!!

Over lunch we got to talk about various things. About what I liked doing, about what we thought about life, about why he was on this journey, about what I want to do with my life, about what he believes in life and what I believed to, and just about.... whether we could both be so damn wrong in the end.

We talked till about four, I think, then I asked if he wanted to go somewhere else. We decided to go to Petaling Street, so I drove us there. In Petaling Street we went around looking for food. He likes sweet things, so we were looking for various sweet things to eat. We kept talking and it was really nice, I suppose. Quite tourisy for me, actually.

But it's very interesting to note that most of the store sellers in Petaling Street are now foreign workers, like Bangladeshi workers. I think there were less than a dozen stores manned by Chinese, actually. And also, I'm just amaze like how these sellers know that Aki is Japanese! Coz after 6 months on the road under the blazing sun, he barely looks Japanese anymore! But when we walk past a shop, the sellers just automatically go "Master! Chotto matte!!" wth....

Anyway, I wanted Aki to try those white peanut ball thing (the one covered in flour), but we couldn't find it in Petaling Street. So i called Jarod to ask if there was a pasar malam at Bangsar. We were in luck and there was one in Bangsar (in retrospect, maybe we should have gone to the one in Taman Megah).

So, I drove and we went there. It was raining then so we decided to stop at a coffee shop to have a drink first. So we sat there and talked again.

And I really enjoyed our conversations. ALTHOUGH they WERE 90% in Japanese, actually, and 30% of the time he had to complete my sentences or paraphrase my sentences so we both have the same idea what was being said. But I really enjoyed our coversations.

I guess I was talking about Japan alot and because of that, I was talking alot about my dreams and what I believed in life. And here was this guy who is living an amazing life, a total life less ordinary, extraordinary, actually... And I suppose he thinks alot of what he's doing too... And it leaves the both of us wondering, I suppose, did we get it right in the end.

When everyone else is building up a life out of bricks with career, money, family, house, car... Here we were shacking our life up with straw and hay, not even knowing where our "place" is. Where do we belong? Where do we want to settle? Just somewhere in our hearts we know we have got to go... I guess, more so for Aki than for me. I guess i just want to go to Japan, you know, for my own stupid reasons. But for him, I don't think the world is large enough for him.. and his bike!

But that is our dream. It's not the money or the career or the family or the house (though the money TOTALLY facilitates the realization of our dream). But that's not how we think.

We want something else.

And as he said, "いい経験" (Good experience).

I guess that's what we want.

Do we?

I want to work in Shinjuku Tower Records (which Aki said is a VERY VERY VERY VERY INCREADIIIIIIIIIBLY SMALLLLLLLLLLLL dream!!! lol).

But, that's what we want.

Good Experience.

Could we be wrong?

Maybe.

I guess we could be wrong.

But i want to believe in my dreams. I want to believe in it. As stupid, as ridiculous, as much as ALLLLLL my friends and my ever-practical UNCLE LEONG always, always say to me "Elaine, wake up to the REAL WORLD".

No, I WANT to BELIEVE in my dream.

Even if it's stupid. Impractical. Dumb.

I want to believe in it.
I want to hold on to it.
I want to believe that one day it can come true.
God, God, I want to believe that it is going to come true.

For that one, just one tiny speck of undying-logic-defying hope, I hold on to it, I want to believe in it, and just everyday, every moment, against the gargantuan wall of doubt, this damn tiny flicker of illogical hope, I continue to trudge on, as painful, as depressing, as hopeless I feel sometimes... I refuse to give up. I refuse to let go. I refuse to throw in the towel. I refuse to let life get the better of me. I refuse to lose.

I want to believe I too can win.

I really want to believe, dear God, I too can get in. One day perhaps. One day, soon, I REALLY REALLY hope.

I guess, I REALLY REALLY REALLY believe that even if it's stupid and even to me it seems IMPOSSIBLE most of the time, actually, somehow somewhere in me, I think I am really crazy because I actually believe it can come true.

And I think that is why, I NEVER gave up. Because I stupidly actually believe that it can come true.

I guess, we're demented dreamers.

But Aki-san has really inspired me. Not inspired me in the sense that I think that because he can live his dream, mine can happen too. No, I think his is different from mine, and I am constantly negative and doubtful and worried about my own future.

But he has inspired me in the sense that, it's the first time in my life, I had met someone who has really done something so extraordinary. To have spent six months on the road, on a bike, traversing across this continent-- it's as if it's the first time in my life I have met someone so.... indescribable. Someone, who lives a life less ordinary.

I suppose, that is why Aki-san inspired me. Because his story is not one I read in magazine, but for the first time in my life, I met a person in flesh and blood, who has spent his whole life so doing this, living so differently.

It takes alot of motivation to cycle 7000 km you know?!

I guess some will dream to be doctors, will work incredibly hard to be doctors.

Some will live their life less ordinary building smart tunnels, moving from scholarships to scholarships from UK to US to Antartica.

Some will settle for a well-paying job, happy with their family, and see the world through the well earned perk of yearly overseas company trips.

Some will thrive in their profession and live through life less ordinary through the extraordinary local Malaysian social circles which is their oyster.

Some will be luckier than others. Some will have great breaks and end up unexpectedly in lives less ordinary whil maybe others (like me) will try their whole lives for that life less ordinary and still not get there.

そうおもうんですか?「人より幸せになりたいだけ?」

And yes, I am not sure, what is right and what is wrong, and who are you and me to say what's wrong and what's right, anyway?

I wrote to Yoshitaro, "I haven't found what I want."

And perhaps, that is closest to the truth.

I wonder if Aki-san found what he wants.

I wonder if Sarah's found what she wants.

I wonder if the people who constantly find themselves drifting or wanting to drift has ever found what they want.

Are we all wrong, in the end?

かもしれませんね。

In the end, after our drink, we went to walk the Bansar Pasar malam which is like a REALLY small one and I never found that white peanut ball.

But we bought (or he bought) nasi dagang and murtabak, and I ended up driving us back to my house to eat it.

But we had a nice time eating and talking and after which, I took him back to Sarah's apartment in Jalan Ampang.

So that was my Sunday.

Alot of driving, alot of climbing, a lot of eating, a lot of drinking, too much Japanese!, but a whole lot of fun-- and my heart was moved.

I still have TP9 to go though. The final TP. I wanted to do it well, but coz I spent so much time wasted this weekend, I Really wonder how TP9 is gonna do..... It's THIRD CONDITIONAL LANGUAGE LESSON too.

Sigh... Dear God, please help me get through this last last last one well... Please...

The End of Something

Well Jarod is leaving America for good today.

The end of something, huh...

I guess what's sad is that, I also feel like part of my history dies with his leaving.

I remember when I was in Boston back in 2005/2006, I used to travel down to Phily almost every weekend to hang out with him. It was crazy because the trip to and from Phily itself would take like 18 hours, and I'd spend about 12 hours in Phily....... just to eat Katsudon or Bak Kut Teh and watch anime with him. Or we'd meet at New York to have dim sum.

Still, they were great times, you know? Those were really, really mundane but very, very memorable weekends...

I suppose when finest lines divides a night well spent from a waste of time.

I guess, I also feel sad with his leaving because it also means a true end to all that.

I wonder how long these places stay with you, even if you have left. I feel as if I can still feel it all, what it felt like those times...

And the places you've been to never really leave you. They're just there, buried beneath the life you have to live everyday... Resurfacing only when you sit alone in your room, or an almost familiar sight on a train brings to your mind the recollection of the vision of a past, the view the sights the sounds the feelings the people the moments the places... So near in your heart in an opaque vision in your mind, yet..... so damn far away... and you can never have it back again.

I guess that's what most of what America is to me, and the bits and pieces of Japan that still remains.

きらりいろ

I've been waiting all this time to be, something I can't define
So let's cause a scene, clap our hands and stomp our feet or something,
yeah something I've just got to get myself over me

I love this chorus from The First Single, by The Format. I guess I miss listening to good English music because lyrics are always the best. I'm still a "writer" after all, and not a musician.

But I love this chorus. I love these lines. Because they always remind me to get myself over me.

I know I am someone who is very insecure inside. Very.

And because of that, no matter how kind or generous and co-operative I want to be, I know that my insecurities always get the better of me, and I always have a hidden insecure jealousy gnawing me inside. I hate that part of myself very much. I AM aware of this part of my shitty personality that causes me to be INCREDIBLY selfish most of the time and I hate it. But somehow, I just can't stop myself.

I really don't like this part of me.

But,

I love those lines from The First Single because it always, always reminds myself that I should probably get myself over me.

And yes, I want to love everyone.

I want to be generous to everyone.

I want to be absolutely kind.

I want to be absolutely sincere.

I know I am an honest person, and I try my best to be as sincere as I can. I know I am probably more honest about my feelings than most are-- But I also know that when I am insecure, my heart is black. And I hate that blackness...

I want to get myself over me.

Because I want to learn to be a truly good person.

Because I want to be a good friend.

I want to be a true friend.

catastrophic failure.

I think 猫(Neko/Cat) by つばき (Tsubaki) is quite a bitter (???) song. I think la... Can't fully understand it yo! haha

But I really like that one line in it 「この世界は君のもの」. I'm taking it out of context of the song, of course, but just as it is, "Kono sekai wa kimi no mono"... sort of translates to "This is your world"...

I really like it... Because it's like that English saying "The world is your oyster".... And it's like saying, "hey, this is your world, do what you want, do what you can because this world is yours"-- such endless possibilities....

------------

From:
To: "Robbie McEvoy"

hey you.

thought I'd write this to you.

i still want to write my book.

haha..

that was random huh?

i think many parts of me has been lost in the shuffle in the past few years. it's unfortunate i just can't throw in the towel and call it a day. just take what comes my way instead of being still always the dreamer. it'd be so much easier that way. in fact, i'd probably have been more successful that way. probably some renowned malaysian journalist by now haha.. I am serious though. i can see my dad's rationale, how easy it would be for me to make it in this country.

yet my aim is not to stay, but to leave, and thus. I don't want. I don't want all those. I want what I want but that's getting me nowhere. It's like, since coming home, hell even before I took that flight out of LAX, with every decision I take, more mistakes are made. In fact I feel like I'm shooting myself in the foot each day. That I'm burning down every bridge my dad had so painstakingly and sacrificially built for me.

i can only see my friends rising and soaring, taking a bite out of a portion of this world that is theirs, and then there is me, and I am groping in the dark.

sometimes between here and there, the tomorrow of a realized dream, i just can't see the way.

and.. I'm not afriad, but I am just frustrated at myself that I am so stupid to keep nailing my own coffin-- or that's what i think too, you know?

It's like you know how life is so endless, there could be so much more, but I am nowhere... And that which I can take and grab for myself, I am not, I am pushing them all away as if they were infectious disease.

And even I myself think that I am stupid for choosing the path I am choosing.

It's hard to live with yourself that way, ya know.

I just want to believe that I am not gambling my life on a losing bet.

I just want to believe that though I am stupid, though this choice is absolutely ridiculous, I WANT TO BELIEVE that, one day, I will be proved right-- that this choice would prove to be the right one...

Because I don't quite want riches, I don't want fame, hell, I don't even want a well paying career, you know?

I just want a life less ordinary.

a life less ordinary that I am proud of, a life less ordinary that I am proud of saying that I have lived and I am happy.

That's really all I want.

And spinning all these into that gamble.

I wonder if I am right, or am I just plain stupid. Unrealistic. Still in my own dream world.

I want to believe this is right.

But I can't help but feel everyday that I got it so very wrong.

And I have set myself up for failure.

Is it really better to have tried and failed for that which you love, than to never have even tried at all?

tell all your friends.

I guess I had to write this one.... I was going through my imeem uploads and saw the Taking Back Sunday upload.

I miss TBS very much (kinda disappointed, just checked their webpage and they've not even released a new album yet!!! I guess I'm not THAT out of touch then!).

Am listening to Your Own Disaster now. And you know, I can remember, sitting at the exact same place now, 7 years ago, listening to this song for the first few times.

I wrote this back in the summer, I think, of '03, when I was first in America and at that time TBS was in limbo because John left the band and we all thought that was the end of Taking Back.

Photobucket

Ignore the "I wrote" and "Adam answered".

But anyway, I wrote this "TAKING BACK SUNDAY IS PLAIN AWESOME". And I think at that time, I had been listening to TBS solidly for 8 or 9 months. Like everyday I listened to NOTHING but TBS. And I loved every heartbeat of it from the bottom of my heart!! New love I suppose! lol~

Anyway, I loved TBS. I really did.

And I still love TBS. I really do.

And I still love the energy of TBS.

I can't say which experience was more overwhelming, the TBS and Finch shows in America or the Lunkhead shows in Japan. Both were dreams come true, both were as intense, but both held very different meaning for me and both evoke very different feelings within me.

I think I've not heard TBS AT ALL for the past 3 or 4 months.

That's a first.

Because TBS has always been there, I suppose, in one way or another, in the past 7 years. Yes, the band I've probably supported the longest is Ash, but I suppose, TBS is the band that really has been.... there, somewhere, in the past 7 years.. There was always a TBS song to link to a memory...

I can't say now that I love TBS as much as I did. Even now as Tsuki to Tenohira plays and Odaka-san sings those lovely lines, I really can't say I love TBS more than I do Lunkhead. No, not anymore. Not for the past 3 years, I suppose. I guess somewhere in the closing notes of Head Club and the opening lines of What's it feels like to be a Ghost?, and as Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Plastic Tree and then Lunkhead crept in... something was lost.

Yet.

Yet.

As the first few chords of Cute without the E plays now, man... I think, if you ever gave me a chance again, right here right now, I will, in half a heartbeat, jump right into the middle of the mosh pit, without forgetting all the mosh pits we nearly died in, with all my heart, not an ounce less than 5 years ago, I will without missing a beat, "I stay wrecked and jealous for this, for this simple reason I just to keep you in mind as something larger than life!"

Kinda such a pity. My last TBS show was the last 15 minutes of their Boston set, and that was the very last time, and I never got to sing Cute without the E with you again....

But I suppose it's apt.

It's apt because the last song that I did get to sing with them, with everyone, with our breathless voice and the drowning rush, was You Know How I Do- because it was the song that defined my American life. And there in my final months in America, this was its requiem.

Well even now as the first few notes of Great Romances play, I'll always remember listening to Great Romances, while I walked home from CSUN, those first few months in America, as Adam sang and I inhaled the fresh cool air, looking into the sky, smiling, happy, thinking, I was FINALLY under the same sky, on the same continent, walking the same land, in the same country as this band. Wow, what a dream come true. Wow. How great it was, how great it was indeed.

I guess, if I never get to Japan, it's okay, isn't it?

Because I had chosen one dream, and God had already granted me that one dream to live.

Shouldn't be asking for another. For a second dream to come true.

おだかがおだかだ!

Sorry, I know the Japanese post is very long at the bottom. Obviously, it's not mine, it's Yoshitaro's.

(TO ALL MY FRIENDS OUT THERE WHO ARE SICK AND TIRED ABOUT ME TALKING ABT YOSHITARO AND LUNKHEAD, DON'T WORRY, THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE POSTS! hahaha...)

I really love Yoshitaro's blog posts sometimes. Odaka-san is so Odaka-san. I think everything in his words always betrays his true self, or whatever that true self he would like to project to the public, to his fans.

But I think a person who thinks too much and contemplates about life too much, will always be a person who thinks too much and contemplates about life too much.

Like how my brother can never stop philosophizing about life, and neither can I stop from personal reflection.

And so, so can't Yoshitaro NOT reflect on life and his thoughts of it.

Albeit, I can't understand Yoshitaro's post most of the time, I really, really feel close to his posts that always reflects on life, and his thoughts on existence and science and humanity.

Odaka-san, are you an existentialist?!

Actually, I was already going to blog about this before Yoshitaro's post came up.

I was watching a documentary the other day about the Superstrings Theory a.k.a The Theory of Everything, or the unifying theory that is seeking to encapsulate both large scale structures of physics such as the universe with the tinest of subatomic qantum physics (I think).

My brother had told me about the superstrings theory, as well as the Chaos Theory, Quantum Electro Dynamics and all that lot, back when I was 14..... Yeah, my brother is abit of a genius. lol. But of coz, my 14-year-old pea brain could not comprehend such manitude of things-- not completely anyway!

ANYWAY! Watching that documentary around December last year when my life was facturing into a million pieces (it's still in pieces now by the way), I was just thinking:

"Dude, some people dedicate and spend their whole lives to something as great as the search for a theory of Everything-- that would grip this world in such a revolutionary force- AND THEN there was ME, who was lounging my life away, wasting it on music, bands, and concerts-- and wanting nothing more to do in life except to see Lunkhead live."

What the hell.

I don't think the WASTAGE of the gift of life could be more aptly illustrated.

Anyway, the superstrings theory was brought to mind, actually, because Odaka-san actually mentioned it in his blog post too =).... Ahhh, Yoshitaro, true to your nature, how very, very, very fitting that you studied Engineering at Waseda--

Today's post was REALLY, REALLY so essentially Yoshitaro that it could not have gotten more Yoshitaro than this. Starts off about work (recording and stuff), then moves on to COOKING... second day in a row! And then suddenly veers off into a totally different direction-- a monologue on the meaning of life and existence, obligation to humanity, the reason of war, and the theory of everything (probably, because, I think, if my Japanese did not fail me, he thought the blog was too shallow (child) since it was about cooking and nothing lately, he wanted to make it less shallow)-- And ending then off his whole post with , Still, I want to sing."

How much more Yoshitaro can you get than that? The post practically encapsulated all the dimensions of his personality true to heart (or at least what has been revealed to the public, to the fans).

BUT.

Bravo, Yoshitaro- I guess, in the end, I'm sure you know, and you feel that there could have been so many other lives that you could have chosen, so many other "greater" things for humanity that you could have done, but in the end-- I guess, those hands waving back at you in the sea of faceless crowds, and your love for music, conquered everything else.

BUT.

At least you found what you love, Odaka-san, something great enough to live for, something great enough to sacrifice for, and perhaps, something great enough to die for.

You know, I was thinking about my own life the other day-- And of course, I thought of Japan, and how I was sprialling everything I had into a single path, into a bet, into the singular goal of simply going to Japan because I want to-- Because I want to see these bands.

And for that one desire, I have given up on everything else, on everything and all that I could have been, perhaps, and all I could have achieved with my God-given talents, with my father's hard sacrifice for the education and qualification he has given me, with all that I am and all that I have-- I have thrown them all away-- burnt the bridges that were built for me by sacrifices of those who loves me, shot myself in the foot-- Just for that one desire-- Such a shallow desire.

I've always been a passionate person. I've always been a dreamer. And many a people has told me that my love for these bands are so obsessive but nonetheless sometimes, so admirable, for the dedication I have to them. And I admire people like Ame too, who loves Lunkhead more than I can ever, and someone like Sei who loves Plastic Tree with unwavering passion for 10 years. I admire them. And I know, while my love for bands pales in comparison to these true fans, I know I am obsessed.

BUT.

BUT.

それでも、

There is a danger in loving something too much.

While my dedication to Lunkhead is encouraging (or scary!) for the band--

Really, I don't think it's good.

Because when you love something too much, or even someone, you become completely BLIND towards everything else.

Towards ALL the other ways that you could have taken.

Towards ALL the other opportunities that you could have had.

Towards ALL the other lives you could have lived.

Towards ALL the other things that you could have been.

But now am not.

And the further you go, the further you pursue in blind love for that ONE THING.

The further you can never return,

to those other ways that you didn't take,
to those other opportunities you didn't have,
to those other lives you never lived,
and to all the other things you now cannot be.

Because you loved one thing too much.
And because you couldn't see anything else because you loved that one thing too much.

「そしてやっぱり俺は歌いたい。」 - And after all, I want to sing.

Really, Odaka-san..... Well, at least, your dream is a dream worth sacrificing for.

I was at Morning Glory Home the other day, I think it was a half-way house and rehabilitation house run by the Church's pastor-- And I was looking at the residents there...

And I was thinking, actually, sometimes, I wonder if that is what God wants me to do in the end. Welfare work. I don't know if I have the strength and capabilities and endurance and resourcefulness for it, but I KNOW that I DO have the heart for it.

I was thinking because I was also thinking about Japan, and all the things I had wanted to do with my life and all the places that I still wish I could go in my life-- and how everything never came true and how my dreams are slipping further and further away. And I was also thinking about the other half of life I never considered, but am thinking about, that is settling down, getting married, having children of the man I love and being a good wife to the person I love the most.

Yet, all those options seems so elusive. Like a haze I cannot grasp or hold in my hands.

And I wondered if it was because God wants me to do this-- That my calling is to go into doing welfare work-- to help-- and that requires me not to have permanent attachments, nor allow me to have personal desires such as going for concerts.

Maybe that's why I would never reach the dreams I dream-- because those aren't the lives I was meant to live.

Maybe this is.

Ne, Odaka-san, I wish I could say like you, "Still, yet, and after all, I want to sing."

But, actually, maybe you got to do what you want to do because that is the life you were meant to live-- even though you most certainly have what it takes to be something so much more for this humanity-- Maybe singing, and those songs that you pour out to the thousands out there, that comforts us, that gives us strength in your words and in your songs-- Maybe that IS your destiny. Maybe that IS what you were always meant to do.

Wonderful isn't it? To find what you were meant to do, and to be doing it.

great many things

Happy CNY year of the castrated bull to you all.

Thanks to all who are still reading =)

Sorry for the lack of updates.

Don't feel like being online much these days. Have things I am thinking about but usually when I'm driving, when I get home, I just don't bother anymore. ha!

ANYWAY.

Went to see Ms. D'cruz at KDU the other day. Ms. D'cruz was my Psychology, Social Psych, Organizational Psych and Biz Comm lecturer when I did my ADP program. She's like one of those perfectionist, utterly brilliant, has zero tolerance towards stupid people, kind of teacher--- SO!!!! It's actually incredibly surprising that I did well in her classes and she favoured me a student and saw the "potential" in me! lol... REALLY, Ms. D'cruz!!!?!

She also taught my brother, but she's always telling me "Elaine, you should learn to live out of his shadows! You have so much talent too and so much to offer!"

REALLY, Ms. D'cruz?!?!

For someone who doesn't tolerate stupidity, it's a real wonder how i got in her good books! Seriously!

But then again, I really do think that social science is my forte, and it's quite a waste I never pursued this field.

Anyway... Yeah, so I met Ms. D'cruz.

I don't think I want to talk about how much I've failed in life-- because that would take up entire volumes.

I don't think I've failed entirely perse... But... From what we were, from where we stood, those years when we were doing our ADP, from when I was 18 and hopeful, from all I was, from all these "potential" that Ms. D'cruz says we have...

I really do think we've wasted it all away.

Everything that gave us, that gave me, an edge-- I feel that in the course of the past 2 years, the moment I decided to step into that plane at LAX in Los Angeles, I've unwittingly chipped away and fractured it into an irreversible collapse.

When I entered the car after speaking to Ms. D'cruz, all I could think was.... Of the thousands of paths that I could have chosen, the thousands of choices that would have given me a life less ordinary, of the thousands and great many things I could have been, I CHOSE, instead... to be a teacher.

How much further can you fall from all that you could have been?

I really admire bands.

I know I am a fan girl.

I really admire bands. I really admire people like Keith (from Days Away), Odaka-san of Lunkhead, Isshiki-san of Tsubaki, Riki-san of Art-School and the likes of them.

BUT.

I admire them. But I admire them, not as a fan girl but really deep down inside, I admire them for the dedication they have for the things that they love the most: music.

Musicians, to me, are unparalleled in their sacrifice for the work they do. I mean, one might say, ah hell, they're having a great time!... YES, I think that's the great part of it, to be able to do something you love ALL the time-- But people don't see what it takes to be a musician-- It's really a 24 hour job, 7 days a week, with irregular hours, tours, practices, radio shows, interviews, writing more music and doing more tours-- ALL THE TIME.

But what I also love about these musicians is that they knew EXACTLY what they wanted when they were young and all they did was head towards and dig their way through to the directions of their dreams, no matter how hard it got, no matter how long it took, no matter how uncertain it seems, not matter the neverending effort to something you don't know would pay off in the end-- They did it anyway-- they did it because they love this one thing so much, they did it because the wanted this dream so much, they did it because it was the only thing to do.

They have a love, and they gave everything that they have for what they love--

That's why, I love musicans so much.

And that is why, some of us will just be dreamers, and others living their dreams.

well... SORRY AGAIN for the lack of update huh!!!!

Anyway, today was the first day of teaching for the CELTA course.... and you know what? I really, really miss having the opportunity to teach foreign students.

I know I only taught a 30 minute time slot today but I really, really miss being in that environment... Actually, I really miss the students... The eagerness in them to want to learn English, just the sheer attention they give and their desire to learn, just simply overwhelms me... Overwhelms me so much that I feel so sad I am unable to help them...

And even through a 30 minute session, you could identify the weaker students and my heart really goes out to them to want to help them. But as my own trainer told me, "Elaine, you can't help everyone, especially not in a CELTA extra class."

But I feel that's so sad. I really, really feel that's so sad-- And that is part of the aspect of this whole Teaching Practice I need to try to get my head around-- is that these sessions are NOT for the students per-say, but more so, they are for me.

But, in my true nature, I just find it so, restrictive, that I am worrying more about the evaluation of my trainer, and about my own performance and my standard (am I saying the right things? am I speaking too much, too long?), than actually thinking about the needs of the students. Although, the class feedback was that I had managed to connect with the students on a personal basis, I just feel that, the class lesson was so much more about me than it was about the students- which is really something that doesn't resound in my heart...

YES, I believe I have to be more aware of my teaching, so that, I am actually able to teach and help the students better-- But, I really, really want to strike a balance with both-- That I don't want those Teaching Practice to just be about me and how I am gonna achieve the lesson aims or if I achieved the lesson aims, I really want the session, too, to be a session where I can help the students---

Albeit, yes, I understand that I won't be able to help everyone through just the CELTA extra class in a 30 minute session, BUT because the students signed up for this extra class in hopes of getting more opportunities to improve, I believe we owe them that much to make their effort worth it. They're not guinea pigs, you know? They're students. Students who signed up because they have a desire to learn, and a desire to improve. We, as teachers, or as wannabe teachers, owe them that much to not just think about ourselves in our lessons.

I felt really sad today, looking at the Iranian student as he struggled for the words to explain what he wanted to do-- yet he was there, making every effort and trying his best to improve himself--- I felt really sad, because..... he's not my student. Because I can't help him.

I don't know.... I have to do a student profile and language analysis of the student, so that I can analyze their language errors, make supported argument as to why they have those errors and also recommendation to them on how to improve. I have one Japanese student in class and of course, naturally, I took her up for the report.... It's a language analysis paper, after all, and since I am more familiar with her native language, I'd be able to analyze better. Also, since I'd like to teach Japanese students too, I thought it'd be good to analyze common language errors that they experience due to the nature of their native language and background.

But actually, NORMALLY, I would be VERY interested in taking up the Japanese student, but today, actually.... I really feel compelled to actually take up an Iranian student for the profile instead (actually, I think 60% of the students at British Council are middle eastern or Iranian) because, there are like two Iranian fellas in the class (I have 7 but these two stood out), and these guys were really like shy at first, but like you know, funny-- But I was just amused with them because they really want to improve in their English, they were THERE, they CAME, and were participating in class and they were abit shy, but willing to learn-- But they were weak, you know? And I feel so much in my heart this wish and desire to just be able to help them-- for the fact that they were there and they want to be better-- I really wish I could help them.

And like I said, the other two Iranian men. These grown men, all so big hahahahha... But, you know, I felt my heart just go out to this guy Ali (also Iranian), when he stood there, trying to take out the worksheet I gave him, then he wanted to ask for another extra blank one. And he wanted to explain to me he wanted to do something with the worksheet (like to check the grammar and stuff), but he just couldn't say it because he didn't know how to say it. And I could jut feel my heart wishing so much I had the time and the skills and talent and the language and ability needed to just help these students-- Like I wish I really, really can just all pull them aside and say "OKAY! I will help all of you! Whatever time I have..." Because they're all just so eager to learn but seems like they just don't have much opportunity to do so.

AND then, you have this man from Myanmar, when you ask him "why do you want to learn English?" and "what do you want to do in the future?" he answers, "To be a good father." --- gosh, how can you NOT want to drop everything you're doing, pull him aside and teach him 15 hours a day for free so that he can improve and be a good father??

Sometimes, I wonder, what really is the right method of teaching you know? Is there really a hard and fast rule about it? Is it really true that we should minimize teacher talk time and maximize student talk time as being the best way for students to learn? Do I restrict myself from the need of explaining too much just because teacher talking is not good? Maybe less words would be better? What is the right way, you know?

I really want to know.

And I really want to do it.

How can I suit my own style of teaching to this model?

How can I intergrate this methodology into my own style so that I most comfortable teaching and the students are able to benefit the best?

How can I?

I really want to know.

And I really want to do it.

Is it condescending for me to think that I can help them?

I don't know, maybe in some way, some people can feel that way...

-- But I think today, I discovered that really inside me, I think, maybe, and I pray dear God, I found this one thing I can feel my heart having a burden and a desire to do: I really, really want to help these students. And I hope, in my heart of hearts, even though I am not a native speaker of English, I would be able to have an opportunity through my life's career, to help students who seek to learn and improve their English.

Sigh... I miss the students, I really do, I really do.

My tutor asked me, "Where did you get that energy from?"

I guess part of me was the nervousness!!! muahahahahhahahahahaha

Part of it is how I am....

But really, I really think it's the students.

You know on Tuesday, I was praying while I was walking to British Council, I told God that part of me don't even know what i am doing. The most important thing about teaching, actually, is having a burning desire to want to teach. ANd to tell you the truth, ever since SriKDU, I have lost all the desire of it-- so much that sometimes even thinking about teaching just makes me go "Bleh", like you can literally see a candle's fire being blown out in an instant in my heart "poof!" when i even think of the concept of teaching to a group of students.

But, today, being in there with the student and seeing their faces, I think, something inside me really called out to it. Something somewhere very deep inside my heart, was really stirred-- was really moved.

I really want to help the students-- And I want to be a good teacher not so I can be a good teacher, but I want to be a good teacher so that my students can best improve through their interaction and relationship with me-- that I might be the bridge through which can walk on to head towards their goals and their desires. Because THAT is the most important. And THAT to me, is what teaching is about.

I still don't know if I can, I still don't know if I am good enough to do it, I still don't know if I have what it takes, I still don't know if I will ever be able to be what is needed to be a good teacher, I still don't know if I will pass the test of fire--

But I certainly want to do my best.

Not for myself, but most certainly for those whom we owe it to give our very best: the students.

NEW IPOD TOUCH~~~~~~~~~~!!!

I got the new Ipod Touch today!!!!

Photobucket Photobucket

Dragon bought it for me as a Christmas present!!! I did have to pay around USD150, though, and I had some problems with Customs too...

BUTTT!!!!!!! NEVERTHELESS!!!!!!!!

GOD IS GREAT!!!!!!

Lately, I had really really really wanted a new ipod because the nano was running out of space... And you know, I don't buy alot of things, usually (except books and stationaries)... But, for once, I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY wished for an iPod..... But of course, I knew I didn't have the money to buy it, nor would I actually spend Rm1600 on an iPod. I wanted to ask my parents, but that was asking for too much, since they're already quite mad at my brother and I for being useless bums...

Anyway, I remember like during the MYF Christmas party, for the ice breakers, Sook Jing had asked us to write "what does Christmas mean to you?" Which I answered "a time of remembrance".... Then the second question was "List two things you want for Christmas"

My answer was:
1) Ipod!!!!! (I really DID want one okay!!!)
2) To see Lunkhead and Tsubaki live in Japan!!!!!!!!

hahahahahhahahahaha~~

Anyway..... After that, I was chatting with Dragon online, and after he signed me on to work for them part time online, he asked me what I wanted... And I jokingly answered "Ipod!!!".... I really wanted one!!! And guess what? He actually said "Okay, I'll get you an ipod for Christmas"

WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!

SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!

GOD IS SO GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, besides always wanting to go to Japan, I really don't usually want anything else.... But this time I really really wanted an iPod and God is soooooooo awesome, when it really seemed IMPOSSIBLE for an ipod to drop on my lap... It DID!!!!

I'm really in awe!!!!!! Seriously, because it could NOT have been a coincident! And such a great providence wouldn't have just happened!!! Seriously!!! God is great!! And God is really wonderful indeed!! Thank You GOD!!!!!!! and thanks Dragon, for the gift!!!! ^____^

Woaaaah... shud have asked to go to Japan to see Lunkhead and Tsubaki instead??? hehehe....

Anyway!!! So I got the new iTouch today and it's great!!! THE APPLICATIONS ARE AWESOME!!!! Actually, I was playing around with the applications wayyyyyyyy more than I was actually doing anything with the songs hahahahaha!!!!

It's abit of a pain to have to reload the songs into the ipod again though. Coz I have songs scattered from everywhere, and the itunes library on my computer is very incomplete and very messy... So I'm not too happy with that.... Actually, not too happy with the selection of songs on the Itouch.... But I don't know, I hope i can find a way to put what I want inside... Coz right now, I don't think I would shuffle this mix... It's mostly all Lunkhead, つばき, Art-School, Base Ball Bear, Syrup16g, Asian Kung-Fu Generation.... and a couple of songs from some random others..... And yes, I think there's less than a dozen English songs in it..... Terrible....

Anyway! Will definitely talk more on the ipod later!!!

hehehehehe!!
